Emitted Energy: FLIR Announces World’s First UL/ULC 2684 Listed Thermal Camera Fire Detection Solutions

Emitted Energy is proud to announce a historic milestone in industrial safety and risk prevention: as a Platinum FLIR® Integration Partner, we are bringing the world’s first UL/ULC 2684 Listed thermal camera fire detectors through FLIR directly to our clients.

This breakthrough provides an officially code-compliant pathway for thermal imaging fire detection in accordance with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code), setting a new benchmark for early threat identification and life-safety compliance.

What the FLIR UL 2684 Listing Means for Early Fire Detection in Your Operations

Conventional fire alarms detect smoke or flame after a fire has already started.

Thermal imaging changes the paradigm by capturing thermal anomalies and temperature spikes long before visible ignition occurs.

With this new certification, FLIR Smart Sensor® thermal cameras can now directly trigger Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACPs), offering compliance confidence alongside unmatched early-warning capabilities.

FLIR A40 Product Image
  • Certified FLIR Camera Models: FLIR® Axx Series (A40, A50, and A70) when configured with the Optional Temperature Range Core and Smart Sensor fire detection configuration.
  • On-Camera Edge Processing: Alarm processing occurs directly on board the camera. Digital outputs connect directly to the FACP for Alarm, Supervisory, and Trouble signals.
  • Block Lens Detection: Includes an integrated algorithm specifically designed to fulfill strict NFPA compliance requirements by detecting physical lens obstructions.
  • System Integration: Compatible with visual image advanced options and ONVIF connectivity to integrate smoothly into FLIR® Latitude or third-party Video Management Systems (VMS) for live monitoring and alarm verification.

Note: UL Listing specifically applies to on-camera Smart Sensor configurations; image streaming-only configurations do not meet standalone UL 2684 fire detection requirements.

With a head start, you have more time to act.

FLIR A40, A50, and A70 thermal imaging cameras are the first thermal cameras certified to UL 2684 for early fire detection. Here’s what that means for you:

Abnormal heat shows up before smoke or flames, so your team has more time to respond and protect your people, your assets, and your operations.

With UL Certification, you get easier approval.

UL 2684 certification gives you a clear, defensible answer when insurers, inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction ask whether your detection is up to code.

With FLIR, you get more coverage for less.

One camera can watch large areas and multiple assets, so you can cover more with fewer devices to install and maintain.

With the Marshal Early Fire Detection System, you can build on what you have.

UL Listed FLIR cameras integrate with compatible fire alarm control systems designed in accordance with NFPA 72.

Get BOTH: Earlier warning. Code-compliant confidence.

The Thermal Edge: Early Detection & Risk Prevention

Seeing danger before it announces itself.

When protecting high-value equipment, continuous process lines, or critical infrastructure, a delayed alarm can result in catastrophic downtime, regulatory fines, or severe property damage. By converting heat into sight, thermal fire detection signals before failure.

For Decision-Makers & CFOs: Achieve reliable risk reduction, protect high-value assets, prevent unplanned downtime, and ensure complete code-compliant peace of mind.

For Engineers & Safety Officers: Access multi-point heat profiling, precise thermal characterization, and polygon-based detection zones directly integrated with your facility’s fire safety infrastructure.

Early Fire Detection Engineered for Your Environment

Every facility presents unique operational hazards.
Standard off-the-shelf security cameras do not solve complex industrial safety challenges, which is why we focus on root causes, not symptoms.

Emitted Energy delivers engineered-to-order thermal solutions that provide real-time process visibility (insight), so you can reduce risk, maintain regulatory compliance, and operate with absolute confidence.

FLIR UL Listed Thermal Cameras Availability
